Hydrodynamic interaction of a bubble pair in viscoelastic shear-thinning fluids

چکیده

We experimentally investigate the interaction between a pair of bubbles ascending in stagnant viscoelastic shear-thinning fluid. In particular, we focus on effect bubble size, across velocity discontinuity, bubble-bubble interaction. Compared to drafting–kissing–tumbling (DKT) behavior Newtonian fluids, fluid exhibit drafting–kissing–dancing (DKD) phenomenon. dancing phase, repeatedly interchange their relative leading and trailing positions as they rise free surface. To gain further insights, flow fields around are obtained using particle image velocimetry (PIV). From experimental results, suggest that elasticity, deformability, negative wake responsible for such an pair, thus revealing fundamental physics clustering often observed non-Newtonian fluids.

The Viscosity Distribution around a Rising Bubble in Shear-thinning Non-newtonian Fluids

The viscosity distribution of the liquid around a rising bubble in carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) aqueous solutions was measured experimentally by particle image velocimetry (PIV). The effect of the concentration of CMC solutions on the viscosity distribution around a bubble and the coupling relations between the viscosity field, flow field and shear stress field were also studied. Results indic...

Turbulent pipe flow of shear-thinning fluids

Direct numerical simulation of the weakly turbulent flow of non-Newtonian fluids is undertaken for two different generalised Newtonian rheology models using a spectral element-Fourier method. Results for a power law (shear-thinning) rheology agree well with experimentally determined logarithmic layer correlations and with other previously published experimental work. As the flow index becomes s...

Numerical simulation of a rising bubble in viscoelastic fluids

In this paper we discuss simulation techniques for a rising bubble in viscoelastic fluids via numerical methods based on high order FEM. A level set approach based on the work in [9] is used for interface tracking between the bubble and the surrounding fluid. The two matters obey the Newtonian and the Oldroyd-B constitutive law in the case of a viscoelastic fluid while the flow model is given b...

Numerical investigation of thermal mixing of shear thinning fluids in one-way opposing jets

In recent years, impinging streams have received increasing interest for their high efficiency in heat and mass transfer. This numerical study was conducted to investigate flow and heat transfer characteristics of one-way opposing jets of non-Newtonian fluids. Effects of Reynolds number impinging angle, momentum ratio and flow behavior index on mixing index were evaluated. The results showed im...

Degassing cascades in a shear-thinning viscoelastic fluid.

We report the experimental study of the degassing dynamics through a thin layer of shear-thinning viscoelastic fluid when a constant air flow is imposed at its bottom. The fluid is an aqueous solution of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium salicylate (NaSal). Over a large range of parameters, the air is periodically released through a series of successive bubbles, hereafter named c...
